Slamp: the leading light

INTERVIEW TO
ROBERTO ZILIANI
CEO SLAMP >>

"Slamp is a pure design company which moves as fast as light".
Roberto Ziliani, the founder and current president of the firm sums up the essence of the Slamp company in this way.
In the years in which Swatch introduced the idea of the non-conventional watch, Slamp was moving its first steps, thanks to a smart idea of Roberto Ziliani, who at that time organised events and the scenography in the world of the top Italian fashion companies.

Slamp enters into the lighting design market in 1994, changing the moment of the usual meditated and programmed purchase in the furnishing sector into an impulsive and un-programmed one.
The famous "Slamp Tube" standing lamp is born, decorated in the artistic talent of the biggest names in design on the international forefront. Anna Gili, Alessandro Mendini, Nanae Umeda, Maria Cristina Hamel, Sanchita Ajjampur, Walter Garro, Massimo Caiazzo, Randi Kristensen and Wendy Weathley personalise the tube, giving life, in 1996 to the memorabile collection "Atelier".

These are the years of the "Katalogos", the Slamp "Catalogues not Catalogues" which combine in commercial function to that of the more experiential and typically profound one of poetry and literary culture.
In 1998 the "Cleto Munari Collection" puts together a team of other big designer names including Aldo Cibic, Roberto Pezzetta, Riccardo Dalisi, Enzo Cuccaro and Xavier Moulin … .
In 1999 Dalisi creates a series of suspended lamps for the Slamp children collection, ornated with his famous "imaginary characters" which have playfully made their name as "Dalisini".
In 2001, the table lamp "Mimì" designed by Massimiliano Datti is reproduced on the Italian design series stamps published by the Italian Mail to celebrate the "Made in Italy" companies and products.
In 2006 Nigel Coates, Art Director of the Department of Architecture of the Royal College of Arts in London, now the Slamp Art Director, begins collaborating with the company and designs the now celebrated collection of "Slampville" lamps. In 2007, the table lamp "Fiorellina" by Nigel Coates wins the prize "Homes and Gardens Classic Design Award".

In the same year the spirit of the debuts is reconstructed; that spirit which has made Slamp one of the most scrutinised case histories in Italy and in the world in the field of design and in the area of communications.

Today Slamp is the protagonist of an exponential growth in terms of positioning on the market and the recognition of the brand name.
It is a firm which is actively present on the international scene, thanks to the scrupulous planning of the press campaigns and the internal management of all the activities of communication. The training dedicated to the creative resources, the continual evolution which involves everyone operating internally and externally to the company, is the key to what renders Slamp a competitive, young, tendency generator on the market today.
Values
The company of interior lighting Slamp transforms its materials into "décor" thanks to its sophisticated productive technology. It selects the best possible natural and technical materials for its lamps: natural leather, prestigious woods, Swarovski® crystals, anodized brass, steel, shiny finish inox steel. The materials in sheets which characterize the Slamp designer lamps are: Opalflex® Cristalflex® Steelflex®.Opalflex®

Opalflex®

Exclusive material which is recyclable and patented used for making Slamp lamps. Luminous, opalescent and as attractive as glass, versatile and unbreakable as plastic, it is patented and produced exclusively for the interior lighting company Slamp. Opalflex® is a totally original mix of polymers and particular additives with unique properties for the emanation of light. The gradation of the colours, which is also brought about by serigraphic means, renders the lamps into luminous presences which create a specifically unmistakable atmosphere.

Cristalflex®

Transparent material developed and produced by Bayer Vivak®. As brilliant as glass, light and versatile as only modern materials can be. The lamps are therefore light and have a characteristic contemporary touch.

Steelflex®

Innovative material with a perfectly reflecting surface. A mirror which distinguishes itself for its flexibility, a quality which is absolutely indispensable for all the Slamp sheet materials so as to create particular lamps in perfect contemporary style.

Lentiflex®

Is a material made using particular manufacturing techniques which make the surface "faceted" as if it were formed from many little prisms. The new material, which has a strong seducing power, creates intriguing and fascinating refractive effects and reflections of the light. Thanks to the superimposing of two layers of material with an inverse inclination of 12°, Lentiflex® … changes colour and form just as water does, depending on the differing points of observation.

Iridescent Effect

The Polycarbonate base undergoes an anti-scratch treatment which makes it even more resistant.
The metallizing technology comes about through a process of depositing metal powders on the material which "excited" by the light, reflect the whole range of chromatic colours.
The result is an extraordinary iridescent effect, which varies according to the angle of incidence of the light.

Products

Slamp uses the best technical and natural materials for making its own lamps and creations for furnishing lightings: real leather, natural leather, prestigious woods, Swarovski® crystals, Opalflex® Cristalflex® Steelflex®.

Quality control

Each lamp is checked, examined and verified at each stage of its making so as to maintain all the characteristics of quality and success which distinguish the SLAMP lamps and creations for interior lighting.

Qualified Staff

The production department is entrusted to qualified operators who are selected on the basis of their competency. All the work procedures are carried out scrupulously and rigorously.

Handmade

All the lamps are assembled on a one-to-one basis as handicrafts are. The serigraphic processes employed in the creation of the Slamp serigraphic lamps are the same as those of artistic prints.

Services

The office specifically dedicated to our customer care can check the progress of customer's orders and the location of the orders which are shipped daily by carrier.

Packing

Great attention is paid to the packing of the SLAMP lamps and the furnishing lighting elements, both in terms of presentation, as well as that of resistance and manageability. The ribbons on the Slamp tube lamp boxes are the unmistakable sign of the Slamp concept of light to give and to be given.
